Liven up grammar practice with a criminal investigation in class!
What is a Crime Scene Decoder Skill Builder?
In a Crime Scene Decoder Skill Builder, students work in teams or individually to solve 10 problems that increase in difficulty relating to a specific language skill. After each answer they will receive a clue. Similar to the popular reality TV show Whodunnit or the board game Clue, there will be a fictional theft of a famous manuscript, in this case "The Raven". The goal is to determine the thief, the scene of the crime and the method.
Sentence Types with "The Raven"
In this Skill Builder, students demonstrate understanding of alliteration and assonance using "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe.
Also included are extension activities where students add interest to their writing by incorporating alliteration and assonance either in a response to the text or as a piece of informative writing.
Included is an outline for how to implement the lesson, a student worksheet, the 10 "Clues" and an answer key.
