This is a geometry game that is modeled after gin rummy (with a little bit of Bingo thrown in). The rules are simple, it is perfect for students to play in independent groups. The game reinforces the common core geometry vocabulary terms that third, fourth and fifth grade students are expected to know. Students build comfort with the terms by looking for specific properties in shapes and drawings of real world objects. Research has shown that the best way to build students' achievement in geometry is to have them spend time observing the properties of shapes and comparing and contrasting shapes. Support is built into the game with definitions and visuals. The game is easy to prepare and students can play for 10 minutes or an hour. Games also build social skills and promote cooperative learning environments.
