This set of games and activities featuring 99 high-frequency GERMAN verbs offers an interactive and communicative alternative to 'traditional' vocabulary and grammar drilling activities, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment.
SAMMLUNG EINS features 99 high-frequency verbs in GERMAN and English in the infinitive form, perfect for pair and small-group work, enabling students to learn independently of the teacher. They’re just right for building, reinforcing and refreshing vocabulary, as well as practicing reading, speaking and pronunciation.
I’ve included a bilingual alphabetical reference list of all 99 verbs: this works well as a learning support resource, and also as a whole-group reading out loud pronunciation and warm-up practice. The cards are versatile, and can be used for a number of language learning games; I’ve described several games you can play and ways you can use them in the classroom. They're great for a ready-made quick vocab quiz too!
The game card template lets your students put their knowledge of GERMAN verbs to the test as they create cards for each other - preferably from memory!
There are three differentiated RECALL AND WRITE ACTIVITIES:
CHILLOUT CHALLENGE 1:
Students recall and write all the verbs in English from a GERMAN prompt - the GERMAN verbs are in alphabetical order
CHILLOUT CHALLENGE 2:
Students recall and write all the verbs in English from a GERMAN prompt, with the verbs appearing in random, rather than alphabetical order
Students recall and write all the verbs in GERMAN from an English prompt - this really does put their knowledge to the test - and is great for practicing spelling in GERMAN too
I've classed SAMMLUNG EINS as a resource suitable for Grades 6-12, because it really does depend on when your students began GERMAN, the level they are currently working at, and the level they are aspiring to. The games and activities are particularly useful as students prepare for examinations, and for the transition period between learning stages.
The cards do take a bit of prep – printing, laminating and cutting out. Laminating is certainly worth the effort and expense, as you
will be able to re-use the cards for many years to come. The REFERENCE, RECALL AND WRITE booklet has 16 pages, and is best photocopied double-sided as a workbook for students to work through either in directed class time, or as independent learning at home.
TOP TIP: create a student volunteer teaching assistant break/lunchtime rota, with departmental or other whole-school rewards as an incentive. This will save you a lot of time and work, and help your students understand some of what lies behind all the planning and preparation!
I've created several sets of GERMAN verb games and activities, each featuring different sets of verbs - they work really well as complementary learning resources, and help build up a comprehensive bank of essential GERMAN verbs for your students.
VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß!
