Here is a free sample of my text dependent questions for The Giver.
These questions are designed to help students answer text dependent discussion questions using the BRACES format. Using BRACES will help your students develop their skills for essay and on-demand writing. BRACES stands for Background information, Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain and Summarize. BRACES and the explanation for each letter in the acronym appears on the left hand side of each page to help students organize their answer.
* As The ELA CCSS require, these are text based questions that require students to analyze a text in order to develop their own interpretation. Students are required to use evidence to support their interpretation.
* These are great questions to use for Socratic Circles.
