This great fourth grade common core math unit 1 resource comes complete with 20 poster cards in all ,containing both essential questions and HOTs (Higher level thinking) questions that you can post to your classroom. I hang mine on a bulletin board near my unit vocabulary words, so the children and I can refer to them during a lesson. The essential questions are for the most part written in a "How do we?" form. The students know what we will be learning the moment they walk through the door. I usually state my essential question at the beginning of a lesson, and as needed throughout the lesson. Although I try to use HOTS questions throughout my lessons, I almost always close a lesson by asking a HOTS question to promote a higher level thinking discussion. Post them and refer to them as needed. Each question is directly aligned to common core standards and the unit: Whole Numbers, Place Value and Rounding in Computation. I used a simple lime green border on the small posters. I copied my cards onto colored paper to save on ink put a little extra color to my classroom décor. I hope you enjoy!
