Essay Peer Editing Organizer
Appropriate for grades 4-7 & Homeschool
PURPOSE:
This graphic organizer will help you structure the editing process with your students so that they can easily go down the checklist of items to help their peers improve their writing. This page gives explicit instructions of how to mark up the first drafts of a 5-paragraph essay including what symbols to use and how to mark it so that the author has plenty of feedback to review.
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
This product contains:
☆1 Full-Page Organizer for helping students edit each other’s essays
STORY:
Even when I was a student, I always had the hardest time with peer editing. Some students would overcorrect your essay and make you feel terrible while others would maybe make one correction on the whole thing. I wanted to balance this out as a teacher so that all students received an acceptable amount of feedback. This led me to create a step-by-step set of instructions that all students follow to check not only the content of the essay but the organization, voice and spelling as well. Items edited are given specific symbols so the original author can easily decode the items to be addressed.
POSSIBLE EXTENSIONS:
Obviously, a peer editing sheet has many uses and I usually have my students edit more than one essay for the experience and the feedback.
MATERIALS/PRE-REQS:
Besides this file, you may require:
☆A 5-paragraph essay to edit
