This bundle includes the following topics broken up into four days:
Day 1: Introduction to the Civil Rights Movement (Key leaders, background to the movement, the goal of the movement, and two different approaches)
Day 2: Leaders and Legislation (a look into more leaders of the CRM and other key people including those who opposed integration. This day includes a lot of legislation passed such as the Voting Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and 1964, etc.)
***DISCLAIMER: I work at a Title 1 school with a heavy ESL population, so my resources are geared toward helping them pass the standardized test in Texas (STAAR) -- while the work is high school material, it is especially helpful for lower level learners and ESL populations***
Day 3: Civil Rights Court Cases (a deeper look at some court cases including Plessy v. Ferguson, Brown v. Board, Hernandez v. Texas, etc. -- also covers the Little Rock Crisis and Orval Faubus's refusal to integrate)
Day 4: Minority Movements (AIM, NOW, Women's Liberation Movement, Phyllis Schlafly, Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, Chicano Movement and mural movement, LULAC, the American GI Forum, etc.)
Each day includes the following: A PowerPoint and guided notes, an independent reading assignment, and an exit ticket. All worksheets that require an answer key have one.
Also included is a "side by sides" review which is just a quick print out copy of the entire unit which I use for students who have been absent a lot or as a way to review before the unit or after.
