This is a comprehensive NO PREP, NO PRINT unit that explicitly teaches students how to describe using their five senses and other guiding questions. It addresses identifying the five senses and explains what each one is responsible for. This unit follows a progression of providing students with examples of adjectives that correspond to the sense of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch.
It displays nicely on a Smartboard, tablet, speech teletherapy telepractice platform, iPad and can be followed as you teach, allowing students to interact with the material by approaching the board to circle, underline, or fill in the graphic organizers. This is a very engaging lesson and it will GROW so get it now while the price is still low. The individual slides would also display nicely on a "Describing" bulletin board. This is a great introductory lesson for younger students, but I have found that it is also very effective with my older students to review and encourages them to be more expressive during conversations by adding descriptive adjectives. It is also a great way to help guide their thinking process for writing with more vivid detail.
There are a variety of ways you can teach this lesson. Once my students are able to demonstrate an understanding, I love to have them apply their knowledge by creating stations and allowing them to rotate around the room as they interact with and describe tangible objects.
