Gadsby’s Tavern in Old Town Alexandria is an excellent example of a colonial and post-Revolutionary War inn which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Noted United States founding fathers were guests - Presidents Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe. These men met at this establishment to discuss the struggles of governing the new nation. Tour the dining areas where these great men created strategies, the guest rooms where overnight visitors slept, and even a ballroom where the men and their wives relaxed and enjoyed a time of dancing. Even though this is a brief presentation, it includes original author photographs and informational text which give the students insight into that formative time period.
