Gallery walks are a fun way to get students up, moving, and engaged in the discussion process. My favorite way to conduct a gallery walk is to post discussion questions are the room. Students circulate around the room to answer each question with a small group. Students can record their answers in a variety of ways such as with a dry erase marker (if the discussion questions are placed on dry erase board), using sticky notes to record and adhere answers, OR by using one of these forms to respond on their own worksheet. At the conclusion of the activity, hold a discussion on student responses to discussion questions. Gallery walks are a great tool because students have the opportunity to develop their answer in a non-threatening environment before being called on to participate in the in-class discussion. Gallery walks also add diversity to your lessons and allow students to get out of their seat.
