This world history and Common Core aligned WebQuest gives students an opportunity to explore ancient civilizations in detail utilizing higher order Blooms thinking, collaboration, research skills and oral communication. The Mission: Students are members of archaeological excavation teams hired by the Smithsonian Institute.
Each excavation group will operate as a team and research an ancient civilization. Students will use and create multimedia visual aids, including recreations of artifacts, a map of their civilization, a Photostory timeline of significant events, and a brief history of their civilization in some video or audio format (Voki, Voicethread, podcast, etc.). The WebQuest will end with team presentations of their museum exhibits to a panel of historians from the Smithsonian Institute (classmates).
Civilizations covered in the WebQuest: Greece, Rome, Egypt, China, India, Mesopotamia, and Maya.
