Product Description
This resource will help your students Convert Measurements using the customary liquid measurement units: Gallon, Quart, Pint, and Cup. There is an extension activity included to make connections between equivalent units and equivalent fractions.

Unlike a worksheet, this game can be used over and over again to reinforce this concept! Students will begin to memorize these relationships and will think back and visualize this game when solving conversion word problems.

There are color and blackline versions of the game included.

Why did I create this product?
This game is a fun way for students to practice measurement conversions in a visual way. For many students, setting up a conversion table is too abstract. This game helped me build a foundation for conversions. The game cards are essentially manipulatives, and after playing this game with students, conversion tables became much less abstract and made sense mathematically.

Another benefit is that with repetitive play, students internalize these customary conversions and can visualize what needs to be done when making conversions between cups, pints, quarts and gallons. (I have played this game so many times that this is what I visualize when making conversions while baking and cooking!)

TEKS Alignment
4.8(B) Convert measurements within the same measurement system, customary or metric, from a smaller unit into a larger unit or a larger unit into a smaller unit when given other equivalent mesures represented in a table.

Common Core Alignment
4.MD.A.1: Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement, express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement equivalents in a two-column table. For example, know that 1 ft is 12 times as long as 1 in. Express the length of a 4 ft snake as 48 in. Generate a conversion table for feet and inches listing the number pairs (1, 12), (2, 24), (3, 36), ...
