"The Wheel of Life" is the portion of "The Game of Life" where random life events that happen to all of us (car breaks down, birthday gifts need to be purchased, phone breaks and need to buy a new one, etc.) affect how much money we are left with at the end of each month.
Each student will be given a character that they will "act out" during first semester. Each character has an occupation, annual income, home life description, monthly income and monthly expenses. Students will be paid every two weeks, and must pay their living expenses every two weeks. (Each two weeks emulates one month in real life.) Checkbooks must be balanced every two weeks, and random life events (car accidents, health copays, car oil changes, etc.) will be thrown into the mix after balancing the checkbooks for a few months. The object of the game is to save the most money. Whoever saves the most money at the end of the semester gets a prize!
IMPORTANT: FOR THIS FILE, YOU'LL NEED SOME SORT OF NUMBER WHEEL WITH NUMBERS FROM 1-48. I BUILT A WHEEL IN MY CLASSROOM TO ACCOMPLISH THIS, BUT ALTERNATIVES THAT WOULD WORK WOULD BE TO WRITE THE NUMBERS 1-48 ON A PAPER, CUT THEM UP AND PUT THEM IN A HAT - EACH STUDENT DRAWS AN EVENT EACH TIME HE/SHE SPINS. ANOTHER OPTION WOULD BE TO FIND AN ONLINE NUMBER GENERATOR (EX. - WWW.RANDOM.ORG) AND INPUT THE MINIMUM NUMBER TO BE 1, THE MAXIMUM NUMBER TO BE 48; KIDS CAN COME UP AND HIT THE "GENERATE" BUTTON TO SEE WHICH LIFE EVENT HAPPENS TO THEM.
