Walopoly is based off of an American Legacy in the board game industry. I handmade this board game to help me add that spark back into my classroom. I teach elementary computers and typing was getting very dull and old! What better way than to make it a part of a game?!
This can be used in any classroom for any age. It can be used as a single player or multi-player activity.
My personal Use:
I labeled each box with different activities we needed to complete during the quarter. (Typing buildings, Journal Entries, Research, etc. I spread them out all over the board and then surrounded them with other short activities that reinforced their learning in and out of my classroom. On top of this we had the ever so popular "chance" and "community chest" cards. These cards sat on my desk and when a student rolled the dice (digital dice in my room) and landed on them, they came to me and picked up their card - read it, put back on bottom of the pile - then returned to their seat to complete the task. What I loved about this board game is that my hard to motivate or lower students EXCEL with this "game." Even if it has the same activities you normally cover, because of the design and color it becomes a fun activity they look forward to.
I used the universal print cards by quill for the chance/community chest cards. (perforated) Feel free to print and cut out also it will accomplish the same things.
On chance cards I usually had different learning targets that weren't listed on the board that might be in a more fun manner. Example: multiplication facts game
On community chest cards I usually have anything from candy - game time or 10 mins free time, or a homework pass.
I love how I could spread all of my normal learning for the quarter over this one board and surround it with other activities to support their learning and the kids looked forward to it and LOVED IT!
For my 5th and 4th grade I printed an individual board for each kid and put in a manilla envelope and had a 5x7 print out that asked "what they worked on that day" and the date to help me track their work.
ALWAYS MAKE SURE STUDENTS CHECK MARK A BOX WHEN COMPLETED AND I HIGHLIGHTED THE WHOLE BOX AND TOLD THEM NOT TO LAND ON HIGHLIGHTED BOXES AGAIN!
