Games of Beginner Readers (2) builds on what students have learned in Games for Beginner Readers (1). Using this pack, students start playing new activities and games with familiar phonograms. Then new phonograms are introduced at a rate that suits the ability of the student. This pack gradually introduces ten more phonograms: c, d, e, g, l, n, o, r, s, and u. Through play, students practice blending individual phonograms, decoding real and nonsense words, and reading controlled sentences. As students try the All Aboard activity, and race each other down the mountain in the Mountain Adventures Game, they build fluency in reading.
This pack, with original artwork, meets Common Core State Standards, and can be used time and time again by individual students or by students in small groups. The materials are perfect for extra literacy practice and for literacy centers. Tutors who follow the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction may find these materials particularly useful.
Games for Beginner Readers (2) is the second in a series of three packs that introduce beginner readers to all the consonants and vowels. Look for all the packs on the Green Ink store. The activities and games in all three packs are interchangeable so that phonogram/word/controlled sentence cards from one pack may be played on game boards from another. This adds versatility to the materials: CVC words and controlled sentences from earlier packs may be reviewed in the games included in later packs. Also, some board games, such as Three Blind Mice and Read-y, Set, Go to School, may appeal to younger students, while older students may be more interested in On Your Mark… and Mountain Adventure Game.
