Gamify or Gamification is applying game thinking or game mechanics to a classroom environment. Game mechanics includes completing tasks and challenges, earning bonuses and/or badges, and leveling up for increased learning. Students work at their own pace to complete tasks and earn points or badges and progress through levels toward a goal.

Gamification becomes the vehicle for learning any content: Language Arts, Math, Science or Social Studies. This game is ready for your classroom as soon as you print and add your own tasks (assignments), challenges (assessments and performance objectives).

Gamification creates an instant way to differentiate your instruction and speed which students learn and complete learning activities. It improves engagement and motivation immediately. Students take responsibility for their own learning. Advanced students move quickly, working independently through tasks and challenges and can choose additional challenges for more points. Slower students have team members who can work cooperatively, and the teacher is freed up to assist them more.

You will need to invest some time in the beginning to plan and organize your assignments and assessments and decide how to make them available for student's independent rates of learning. But you will save tons of time later and be able to devote more attention to those students who require additional instruction or support while your more advanced students challenge themselves.
