This project is a week long homework assignment that is to help the students analyze the different types of trash and how they can make a change in their home. Each day the students will make a guess for the percentage one item is of their overall waste. Then they will check off the best way each item can be disposed of (reduce, reuse recycle, compost, donate, etc.). Over the weekend the students are to analyze by answering the questions, create an action plan with their family, and create a poster to hang in the kitchen as a daily reminder for them and their family. For the analysis they are to use the Earth 911’s website
to find a place close to their house where their family can recycle. This is an engaging project to get students to think more about recycling and make a difference in their own home.
