Product Description
Kinetic Molecular Theory of Gases, Avogadro’s Hypothesis, STP, Units of Pressure with Conversions, Units of Temperature with Conversions.

In this lesson students are introduced to the Kinetic Molecular Theory of Gases and Avogadro’s Hypothesis as background concepts before moving into the gas laws. The units used in gas laws calculations are introduced and students will be able to convert units of pressure and temperature, and recognize STP in the different units on completion of the lesson. This introductory lesson is vital before moving on to the study of the gas laws. The notes are laid out in a Cornell Template and follow the PowerPoint. A set of completed notes are included for the teacher.

The PowerPoint includes higher order thinking questions for students, making the lesson interactive. The Homework includes questions on the KMT of gases and pressure/temperature conversions, and identifying units of STP.

With this prior preparation, students will move into gas laws calculations better prepared. Included are three pages of teacher background information by slide and a fuss free demonstration with powerful real world connections.

Describe the Kinetic Molecular Theory of Gases, and how it explains properties of gases..
Define pressure, give units of measure for pressure, and describe how pressure is measured.
State the standard conditions of pressure and temperature and convert units for pressure and temperature.

Prior Knowledge for Students:
Students should be very familiar with dimensional analysis.
