Product Description
Mini-lesson recapping the transformation of James Gatz to Jay Gatsby in Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby. This lesson references snippets learned from Jordan in chapter 4 and Nick in chapter 6 about Gatsby's identity. Make sure students are connecting the dots about what is real and what is rumor in Gatsby's life.

This purchase includes a 16 slide PowerPoint that recaps Gatsby's life from birth (as James Gatz) to "present" in chapter 6 and a student notes and writing page. Each slide is cited with a page number in the novel so students can find quotes for the writing prompt. The student notes page has blanks to be filled in during the PowerPoint and a writing prompt with instructions on the back. The notes page is in Word for you to make changes as needed.

The lesson is designed for a 40-45 minute class period, ideally after students have read chapter 6. The PowerPoint takes about 10-12 minutes to work through, and students are allowed the remainder of the hour to complete the writing assignment.
