This assignment will require you to have access to recorded television. If you can record on a DVD or even VHS, great. Maybe you can even use flash memory, or you can access shows online with the ads still there (recorded from live TV). If you can get your hands on this kind of video (even if it's from something you recorded a decade ago), then you have the makings for a very interesting little lesson.

All I did was use a show targeted at an obvious audience (soap operas targeted at women). There are all kinds of audeintce-specific shows. The worksheet does the rest. Group work. Cooperative learning. Lively discussions.

Keep in mind, however, that I used the soap opera called Passions, which was pretty insane, and therefore fun.

Two-page worksheet with nine thinking questions and a lot of discussion built in. Use it as part of social studies or world languages classes. Use it in English or media studies.
