PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This assignment has students evaluate the role gender plays in the novel The Great Gatsby and then has them compare the novel to the roles portrayed in the film Some Like it Hot with Marilyn Monroe. Both portray the Jazz Age and the roles each gender was meant to represent, but the film was made decades after the Jazz Age and reflects the changing view of women through the hilarious story line.

The lesson can be taught any time during the novel if the characters have been established...Chapter 3 or later... or at the end of the novel.

This lesson requires students to pull out inferred attitudes through the texts(ELA.RL.11-12.1) and compare themes in contemporary texts (ELA.RL.11-12.9). The lesson requires class dicsussion (ELA.SL.11-12.1) of the topics on the worksheet (the worksheet being a way to record information) so that the information can be used for the summative writing assignment (ELA.SL.11-12.2).
