Deceptively simple (and therefore easy to memorize) flashcards on the must-know basics of gene expression. Perfect for dual credit and AP Biology! These cards can be assembled into a flipbook (lift-the-flap) and/or used in a you-have-I-need game in class for group testing purposes. I have included both blank answer pages and answer keys for maximum flexibility.
I created this activity because so many of my of my community college biology students are not truly college ready! They often have no clue how to self-test early and often (BEFORE the exam). I have seen how good flashcards are a great tool in information-heavy courses, but many students do not know how to make memorable cards or how to use good cards efficiently. So I either assign this flipbook exercise as homework, or lately I have been giving it out as an optional activity to count towards the "EMS" bonus points I offer towards every lecture exam (EMS stands for Evidence of Meaningful Studying, which may include hand-written anything, including flashcards). These interventions really WORK! Students LOVE the follow-up you-have-I-need activity because they go from feeling intimidated to feeling empowered!
