I used this lesson with high school students in a human disease course at an alternative high school. It could easily be used with high school biology students or middle school students. The lesson focuses on cystic fibrosis and using gene therapy as a potential treatment of the disease. The zip file includes a flash video that uses real player (free to download). The video is 8:21 minutes long and features teenagers and young adults living with cystic fibrosis. The handout, included in the zip, has a place for students to reflect on the video. Students then read an article on using gene therapy to help cure cystic fibrosis (included in the preview file). Questions are included in the handout that accompany the article. There is also an assessment piece in the handout that allows students to tie everything together.
