Genealogy Interview: Snowy Days

Genealogy Interview: Snowy Days
Product Description
Genealogy Interview: Snowy Days
What kid doesn't love a snow day?

The next time you anticipate a snow day, or after your students return from one, assign this interview. The 10+ questions ask for childhood memories of experiences playing in the snow and keeping warm.

Good genealogy interviews seek out more than names and dates. The right questions open minds!

Students can...
• Interview parents/guardians, relatives or neighbors to increase genealogical knowledge and gain understanding of differences in society over generations.
• Interview retirement/nursing home residents to promote community involvement.
• Complete the worksheet themselves as an autobiographical activity.

1. Assign the worksheet. Include any special instructions you have.
2. On the due date, hold a class discussion. Ask students to compare and contrast the interviewee's memories with their own experiences.
3. Grade the worksheet, but try not to mark it up too much.
4. Ask the students to offer to return it to the interview subject. If this is part of a larger interview unit, ask the student to save the paper until all materials can be gathered in a folder and returned.
