In my classroom, we first go over the poster and "I" statements for the GLO we will be focusing on. We focus on the GLO for one to two weeks. This depends on how my students are doing on that certain GLO. If I feel that they need more work on it, then we will focus on it for an additional week. It really depends on your class. However, I do incorporate the GLO for the following week no matter what GLO I am focusing on. This is to make sure that they don’t forget about last week’s GLO. It’s a constant reminder to them!
What’s beneficial about the weekly and quarterly reflection sheets is that I use these during parent-teacher conferences. This is a great way for parents to see how their child did, focused on or how they reflected on their goal. I also use these sheets when I am grading my students on the GLOs. In Hawaii, we give students grades based upon the General Learner Outcomes. I use this as data when I am grading them. What’s even more beneficial is that students are able to reflect upon their behavior and set goals to improve themselves.
UPDATED: I included 3 different GLO Booklets that you can pick and use at the beginning of the year when reviewing/going over the GLOs. You could also use it when introducing each GLO.
