PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students will be held accountable during their reading time by making generalizations about characters or other elements of the text. This is a great way to assess quickly if your students understand this skill. It also encourages students to THINK about what they are reading, which translates into comprehension.

This is a three-page document that includes two different varieties so that you can use it flexibly. The first two pages include small boxes for students to fill out. I use them as a Reader’s Workshop assignment, to introduce the strategy in shared reading and to reinforce the strategy in guided reading. I print them front to back so that students can use the same sheet all week long and so teachers don't have a million items to collect and grade if they choose. They can also easily be cut into strips to as a literacy center activity or as a quick exit slip. They can even been used as nightly homework reading response entries.

The third page is a larger version of one single response. This may be more practical for younger learners because it has wider lines to write on and looks much less intimidating. It may also be useful if you only plan on using one or two boxes.
