This is a breakout box activity. This activity was solved in as little as 22 minutes by an accelerated group of 7th graders who had multiple experiences with breakout. It took other classes of typical 7th graders a minimum of 40 minutes to breakout. Excellent end of the unit activity prior to the unit test. Great activity to use for observations. Students use notebooks, computers, flash drives, online puzzles, QR code readers and many more resources. This activity truly requires students to thing critically and to work collaboratively. Terms that students will communicate include DNA, gene, chromosome, purebred, hybrid, dominant, recessive, Mendel, heterozygous and homozygous plus many other genetic related vocabulary.
