In this protein synthesis lab, students take DNA sequences and use them to determine the traits of an organism. The students take DNA sequences, code them into RNA, and then use a codon chart to determine an actual sequence of amino acids. They have a key to determine what trait is coded for from that sequence of amino acids. They then draw their creature. Students compare DNA sequences and final traits to see how different DNA sequences can either produce different traits or the same traits, depending on whether or not they produce the same string of amino acids.
