While genetics can be fascinating for middle school students to learn about, the field of genetics application is growing rapidly. This project is designed to have students apply what they know about current genetics, to solving problems that are important to them through proposing new research in the field of genetics. Students pick a topic and work with a group to do a research proposal for their peers. Their peers become the stakeholders who have money to donate to the projects they feel will provide the greatest benefit to society. Included in this packet is a summary of the timeline, student assignment sheets, a rubric, stakeholder notes form, research questionnaires and a list of potential topics.
