In this self-directed and interactive webquest, students explore the world of genetic and heredity. Students begin with explorations of "what makes you you and me me" - the basics of genetics and inheritance. They move on to choose personal genetic explorations from a host of options, which differentiates to their personal interests. The choices are all real-life relevant in the field of genetics. In the next steps, they explore heredity and the characteristics of inheritance at a deeper level through a series of interactives. They learn about genotypes, phenotypes, alleles, heterozygous, homozygous, and more. In the next step of the activities, students compare and contrast meiosis versus mitosis through a series of animations. The final investigations return to in depth meiosis and mitosis investigations through silly and engaging interactives. This activity is engaging and exciting, and encourages students to be self-directed! It is aligned to 7th-grade science essential standards.
It is important to note that flash is required for one or more of the activities!
