This is one of the first labs I do in my genetics unit. The students work in pairs to study the probability involved in genetic inheritance. Coins are used to simulate the Dominant and Recessive traits in hamster fur color. Students fill out a data table of their coin toss results, then fill out a punnett square and answer key showing the probability of their results. Finally, students answer analysis questions comparing their collected data to the punnett square results. Good concrete example of how punnett squares predict probability.
