The colour of a foal is dependant on the genetics of its parents. Using some scenarios, students are encouraged to make use of fractions and percentages to test their math skills of probability.
Page 1: Discussion of dominant and recessive colours
Page 2: Scenario of a bay and chestnut horse being bred and the resulting foal colour with fractions and percentages discussed
Page 3: 3 scenarios for students to work out themselves, filling in the likelihood out of 4 that a foal is a certain colour and then converting this to a percentage
Page 4: Teacher instructions; teacher answers
Skills encouraged in this activity: understanding dominant and recessive, determining foal colour, work with fractions and percentages.
