Students love Genius Hour! Here they are, ready for the chance to choose what they get to learn about. And the best part? They get to pick anything. Anything at all. With so much freedom, where should you start?
There are things they already like and know a lot about. Should they choose one of those for their topic? Or should they look into something brand new that they know very little about? Is there a common topic they could explore with a friend?
The idea of being able to choose anything as a topic to learn more about is both really cool and totally overwhelming. So, how do you narrow all the possibilities down to one topic? This brainstorming activity will help students select a topic they are passionate about.
This 2-page worksheet takes students through 10 thought-provoking questions. Directions for the teacher give several examples for each question. For example, one question asks "What is something you haven't tried yet but really want to?" Ideas: parasailing, racketball, quilting, directing a movie, ice-skating, tap dancing, jazz singing
