The fifty two page packet of some great examples of nineteen genres for students to read. This packet includes two pages of definitions of the genres. The bibliography comes with a picture of the book, description of the book and Accelerated Reader reading level and point value. There is a column for students to mark the books they have read on the list. The book list may be altered by you to customize to your liking. There is also a list for books students can write down what have read this year and and a list of books that they want to read.
Genres included: Fables, Fairy Tales, Fantasy, Folklore, Folktales, Graphic Novel, Historical Fiction (a second list dedicated to World War II Fiction), Horror, Legends, Mystery, Mythology, Novel in Verse, Realistic Fiction, Science Fiction, Informational, Autobiography, Biography and the Illinois Award Nominees (which you can choose not to print. Please add your state award nominees instead!).
Please note: Some books on the list (in particular Novel in Verse, Historical Fiction: World War II, Biography and Autobiography are for more mature students.
The last five pages are bookmarks with a short definition and characteristics of a genre (informational, horror, novel in verse, mystery and fantasy) to pass out to the students. Print on card stock, laminate and cut! Great way for students to have a snapshot about a new genre!
