    Description

This is a complete set of all things Genre. This comes with a unique genre game, a genre poster set (16 different posters), a genre reading log, 4 sets of genre bin labels with 26 labels each, and a quick assessment form. Introduce, practice, and assess work with genres all with this single bundle of materials. Save by buying this as a bundle rather than all items individually.

Items Included: Genre Game- This is a game including playing cards, directions for 3 different games (using the same cards), and an answer key. I included some cards with the pictures and some without to differentiate for your students. Some may need the visual clues, and some may not. I’ve had a lot of success with this in literacy centers and as a game kids can take home.
Genre Game (great for centers or whole class)

Genre Poster Set- This is a set of posters for 16 different genres. Each poster is two pages (separated). The first page has the name of the genre with its defining characteristics. The second page has pictures of book covers/text examples of each genre. Some people use both, some use only the first page. In any case, both are yours to use how you see fit. The pictures on the posters match the pictures on the game cards.

Genre Reading Log- This is a reading log that requires students to identify the genre of any piece of text and explain why they chose that genre. There are several ways this can be used: daily reader’s workshop log, reading homework log, shared reading assessment, guided reading response, literacy center activity, or any other way you can think of. I copy them two sided to have a total of 5 boxes per page. There are spots at the beginning and at the end for students to write a weekly reading goal and evaluate if they have met that goal.

Genre Book Bin Label Set (2 Varieties)- This is a set of 2 different genre labels sets for book bins or crates. These really help organize a classroom library or can be used to label books (tape to the inside cover).
Genre Labels for BookshelfGenre Quick Assessment Form- This form asks students to determine the genre of a selected piece of text by explaining the characteristics of the text that classify it as that specific genre. This is a great literacy center accountability form or a quick way for you to see if your students can determine genres in shared, guided, or independent reading.
