Students absolutely love hands-on assignments. Teachers love hands-on assignments that ALSO incorporate Common Core standards. Guess what? Our mixed media poster rubric covers BOTH!
After reading a selection from the genre of Non Fiction, students will have the opportunity to create an amazing poster. Attached is our rubric breaking the assignment into two parts:
2. Literary Elements
The design portion specifically breaks down criteria stretching way beyond the basic marker or colored pencil poster. The literary elements portion requires students to write and reflect on specific standards without giving away the resolution of the story.
Everything is clearly spelled out except for point values – teachers may edit the document to assign a point system that works best for their classroom. Teachers may also decide whether to allow class time to create the poster, assign as homework, assign as extra credit, or use for an extension activity. A due-date encompassing a weekend and 3-5 school days gives students plenty of time to draft a poster, gather materials, and produce a final copy. As a bonus, this download includes a page describing a basic lesson outline intended to provide a general instructional overview.
An assignment like this is perfect for teachers needing artifacts or examples of their teaching for yearly evaluations. Look for more posters covering additional genres to be uploaded soon!
