I color-code the genres my students read so the chart in my room is full of a rainbow of colors students read. The more genres they read and expose themselves to, the better. Print them on sticker paper, cut them out and tape them to your board, or print out the blank one and add your own color code system with markers.
My 7th grade students love to see who can read with the biggest variety. It also helps me visualize quickly who needs to be challenged to try a different genre.
