This product was created to help your students explore different genres. It covers 16 genres: biographies/ autobiographies, reference material, fables, folktales, diaries/ journals, tall tales, myths, mysteries, fairytales, historical fiction, realistic fiction, poetry, drama/ plays, science fiction, fantasies, and editorials.
The first four pages are student handouts. In each column, students will have to define the genre, identify its characteristics, and identify its general purpose. Each column also has a few examples listed. Pages 5-8 have a teacher answer key.
The last page includes the definitions of each genre that you can use as a kinesthetic match up activity instead of having your students write out the definitions.
Like most of my products, all pages are editable in case you want to add information (like the novels and stories you are reading in class this year) or if you want to delete information to make the activity more challenging.
