This presentation offers eight mini readers theater scripts covering different genres of fiction that will provide students with an opportunity to check their understanding of the concept. The students will be able to select the correct genre from a list of six choices after reading each script. An "answer key" is built into the presentation to provide immediate feedback. Please note that due to space requirements, fantasy and fairytale have been combined as an answer choice.
The readers theater parts may be assigned if desired. The scripts are short, so you may prefer to have your students read them in table groups. You should find that there will be a lot of flexibility in how the presentation may be delivered. The product is designed to be engaging and should be able to capture your students' interests and encourage conversations about the more subtle differences between the genres. For example, students may note that historical fiction is also realistic fiction, but historical fiction is the "better" answer when forced to choose between the two. Genre is a pretty easy topic to cover. I hope that this presentation may help make it more enjoyable. The review is not intended to be comprehensive. A follow-up worksheet series (Genre Match) is available to use as independent practice after the presentation. Here's the link to GENRE MATCH.
