I have created 8 logic puzzles for grades 3, 4, 5. They are all "book genre" themed. The book genres mentioned in the clues are Poetry, Realistic Fiction, Science Fiction, Historical Fiction, Mystery, Traditional Literature (Fairytales, Fables, Folktales, Myths and Legends), Fantasy, Informational, Autobiography and Biography. Your students need to know which of these genres are fiction and which are non-fiction. (Poetry is its own category.) 6 out of the 8 puzzles have at least one clue in them that requires the students to know the basic description of each genre. Here are some examples of those clues:
"The book titled The Power of Purple contains a magic witch." (Students need to know which genres couldn't possibly have a magic witch in them.)
"Sari is a time traveling robot." (They should know this is science fiction.)
These puzzles have book titles and characters that I've made up.
My students love these types of puzzles, my gifted kids eat them up! They are always asking for more. These puzzles are excellent for critical thinking skills!
