This genre mini-unit is designed to last from five to seven days (dependent on your students' prior knowledge and how you pace your classroom discussions.) As it is currently written, this unit is designed for 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students who need a brief overview of oral traditions with thematic tie-ins. There is a brief introductory activity, several sorting activities, several opportunities for classroom discussions and in-depth analyses of genre types and themes. One of the activities in the unit involves themes designed around the Holocaust. This, of course, could easily be tweaked to where it is designed to include modern day effects as opposed to past effects if your class is not studying/has not studied the Holocaust. This genre mini-unit offers several opportunities for tactile learning, small group learning, and whole class discussion. Three warm-ups or bellringers (PowerPoint slides) are also included.
