Geometry is looking quite different in 5th grade than in years past. Students have to categorize polygons in different hierarchies and subsets along with classifying triangles by their sides and angles.
These 50 task cards will challenge your students and ask them to answer questions based on hierarchy sets, answer open ended questions as well as multiple choice practice, sort and classify polygons, and answer and justify true/false statements.
For cards 1-24, match the given shape picture with its correct name. Write your matches on the recording sheet.
For cards 25-34, put them under the correct heading card: True or False. If the statement is false, justify your reasoning on your recording sheet.
For cards 35-42, answer questions based on hierarchies.
For cards 43-50, multiple choice and/or open ended questions.
There are also 3, full page hierarchy posters for display.
Answer documents are included for teacher quick check or student self-check at centers. Have your students complete the cards at a center and record their answers on the recording key provided or play a game of SCOOT around the room. Use as a ticket out the door, picking one out of the stack to complete as a quick check or spiral throughout the year. Great for fast finishers too.
This document is aligned to Texas Standard: 5.5A Classifying 2D figures in a hierarchy of sets and subsets and Common Core Standards: 5.G.B.3 and 5.G.B.4
