Each student will be provided with the article What Lead to China and South Korea Needing Baby Drop Boxes? Tell students they are going to read the article, each student taking a turn reading aloud. Start the timer to go off every 30 seconds. Each time the timer goes off, the next team member will pick up where the previous member left off. This will continue until each group has finished reading the article.

Provide students with 10 minutes to discuss the article. As they are discussing the article, have the students use their T-charts to record the pros and cons of providing baby drop boxes to societies.

COOPERATIVE GROUP PROBLEM-SOLVING ACTIVITY:
Each group will need a poster board, duplications of baby boxes, scissors, markers, glue and a duplication of a balance beam scale (included). Provide each student with a reproduced balance beam scale.

CLOSURE / EVALUATION: (20 minutes)
After students have completed their baby drop boxes pros and cons balance beam scale, each group will present their scales to the class.

In order to take a tally on the overall pros and cons of the class, the instructor will have a balance beam in the front of the class so that everyone can see it. One side will be listed as “Pros” and the other as “Cons”. The instructor will also have a bag full of pennies, marbles, or heavier game chip pieces. You want to use something with significant weight (like metal or marbles—not light-weighted plastic pieces). Each piece must have the same weight in order to be effective in the measurement of “pros” and “cons”.
