This is the digital version of one of my most popular resources for helping students to become better at using latitude and longitude. These treasure hunts could work as a fun daily challenge while distance learning with your classes, and with no prep required on your part besides uploading each treasure hunt to Google Classroom or whatever digital platform you use, this takes the stress off of you by having resources readily available.

Also Available:

Where's the Buried Treasure? Part 3

Where's the Buried Treasure Bundle

Here's the link for the paper version of my 30 Treasure Hunt Bundle:

Where's the Buried Treasure? Bundle of 30 Latitude and Longitude Treasure Hunts!

Students will use National Geographic MapMaker, which is totally free and linked in each treasure hunt. Students complete a challenge by taking the first letter of each country they found, in order, and those letters will spell out the name of the country where the buried treasure is located. Works like a charm!

Table of Contents:

Treasure Hunts 1-10

Treasure Hunts 1-10 Answer Keys

Instructions in each Treasure Hunt on how latitude and longitude works by using +/- numbers instead of directions like N, S, E, or W.

Instructions on how to use coordinates on the FREE National Geographic MapMaker

What I liked most when I would do this activity in class is when I would hear a student say something like, " that's where Egypt is!" These treasure hunts trick them into learning and into fine-tuning their coordinate skills!
