This document contains differentiated informational text passages (FOUR different passages that are written at two different levels). There are eight passages in all. The topical practice enables students to learn in-depth about geography such as the characteristics of rivers, how mountains change over time, the effect of latitude and longitude on climate, and more. This document enables students to understand how geography is related to daily life as they practice close reading skills with informational text. Since the document is thematic, a student can build world and vocabulary knowledge as close reading skills are reinforced.
This is a great tool for transitioning into Common Core. This aligns with both the Common Core Informational Text Standards and Common Core Social Studies Standards.
