To find the names of various places and geographic features using maps in an atlas or the textbook.
15 minutes for each of five contests
This activity includes five contests that make it fun to learn about various places and geographic features throughout Africa.
Students use an atlas or a map in their textbook to help them identify the places and geographic features described. Each correct answer is worth either 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 points. A perfect score is 100.
In Part 1, students are challenged to unscramble letters that form the names of countries found in Africa. A map of the continent is again needed for this Contest. In Part 2, they must see how many cities you can find and circle on the word search puzzle.
The names of 11 countries, 7 cities, and 6 waterways of Africa are hidden in a series of sentences. Class members must try to find each name, underline it in the sentence, and cross it out in the answer list.
Here is an example of how a place name is hidden.
On our class trip, Oliver Jones got sick.
Two more fun and unique contests (4 and 5) round out this activity.
Easy-to-follow Teacher Instructions and answer key included.
