Geography is an essential tool for helping students find their place in the world, but also to understand how places interact with each other. The goal of this unit is to begin with the essential questions and understandings, and then allow the students to research and explore using any materials you may have. I’ve left it open to independent online or print research, teacher provided notes, or by using geography and social studies textbooks and atlases.
The general format is graphic organizers which will allow the students to see all of the information regarding one topic on each page. Many pages have questions to allow the students to think about the bigger picture – why are we studying this? Additionally, this unit contains some activities my students enjoyed and used as review.
This unit is based on the Virginia Standards of Learning and uses the Prince William County framework for 5th grade geography, but can be applied to multiple grade levels and in multiple states. This unit is based on five regions of the United States.
I will be posting more regions and more resources, so follow me, and keep checking back.
I welcome comments and suggestions. Thank you!
