This is a physical geography unit introducing and exploring specific geography terms including landforms and bodies of water. Students complete a geography project in which they define and illustrate/visualize geographical terms. The project extends their thinking beyond simple definitions by having the students synthesize and transform what they have learned to show their understanding. Included is a PowerPoint presentation of colorful geography pictures that highlight all the terms used. The culminating exercise is a higher level thinking activity that requires the student to justify their responses.
This is designed for middle school aged students (from grades 5 on up).
There is an 18 page pdf that contains student and teacher directions, a graphic organizer for the student’s final project, answer keys, student samples and differentiation ideas. There is also a 17 slide PowerPoint presentation that contains visuals of the geography terms used. There is no prep required and this makes a great introduction to Geography.
The landforms and bodies of water included are:
• fiord or fjord
There is an opportunity for students to expand this list to include geography terms of their choice or ones that they find in their environment.
Everything is included and there is no teacher prep required.
