Geography: Humans and the Environment Classroom Based Assessment

Geography: Humans and the Environment Classroom Based Assessment
Product Description
In Washington State, we are required to give a Classroom Based Assessment (CBA) in Social Studies. This research project and assessment could be used to compare any 2 countries, regions, or states and their use of the environment. The end result is a 10 paragraph paper. In the paper, students have to tell how the people have adapted to their environment, compare and contrast the 2 countries use of the environment, discuss how the countries could have adapted to the environment, and describe a current environmental problem and solution. This could be modified to do as a presentation instead.

Everything is included here except the resources for students to use for research.

Here is the opening assignment for students:

Since we all depend on the health of the environment, responsible citizens need to understand how humans affect and are affected by the environment. You will choose and study two groups of people (the Mongol Empire, China, or Japan) and compare and contrast how those groups interacted with their environments.

You will research, take notes, and write a paper on the following essential question: How do human actions modify the environment and how does the environment affect humans in world history?

Included in this zip file:
1. Assignment.
2. 5 page notes organizer for research.
3. Sample paper and suggested organizer for writing the paper.
4. Grading rubric.
