This is an interactive PowerPoint that is broken into three separate sections:
1. Defining geography, regions, and natural resources.
*Focus is given to regions in the United States.
2. How do landforms and vegetation impact a region's climate?
3. How do people impact an environment?
*Detail is given to discussing both the positive and negative effects change can have on a region.
There are lots of facts, pictures, and opportunities for students to pause and reflect on learning the information presented. Students are asked to answer questions either by themselves or with a partner. One activity even sets a time limit for the students, giving them one minute to complete a task while using an sand hour glass as the timer. A whistle blows when the hour glass is empty.
At the end of each section, a brief "Checkpoint Time" is given. A few questions are asked that relate to the information presented in the section. Students can either write down or orally give answers to the teacher. (My students always enjoy being active participants while learning from a PowerPoint… and yes, the answers are even presented in the slides. )
I hope this PowerPoint is something that will work in your geography unit.
